Swatch Watches - Why You Should Buy One

If you're looking for a watch that's a little bit different, one that complements your personality, and one that is so affordable, you could buy several - one to match your mood on any particular day - then take a look at Swatch watches.

Just like clothing many of us want to buy a watch that expresses who we are and isn't going to be worn by everyone else. We want a watch that's hip but also exudes quality. But, most watches with both of these qualities are usually expensive designer or Swiss watches and many of us simply can't afford one.

However, Swatch watches offer both style and quality, and at a price just about everyone can afford. They're also designer and Swiss-made. So, why else should you buy one?

First, there are so many styles to choose from you'll find one that will suit your personality; from plain understated styles through to pure whacky, eye popping ones. And, with so many styles to choose from, chances are, you won't come across anyone else wearing your watch.

They're very affordable. You can pick one up for as little as $60. What other fashion item can you think of that's costs as little as this?

They're well-made. Swatch watches are Swiss-made and come with Swiss quality movements. The company is also one of the largest watch manufacturers in the world, and it's the only business they do, unlike some other 'designer' watches that are made cheaply and then 'badged' with a logo.

All watches are water resistant to 30 meters, so you can wear them in the bath, shower or when you go swimming.

The company brings out new designs twice a year, which helps keep the watches unique.

You may even be buying a collectible watch. Sure, Patek Philippe watches can become collectible, but they cost thousands of dollars; you could buy a Swatch for as little as $60 and find it becoming a collector's item in a few years - Vivienne Westwood (famous fashion designer) designed a few and they are now serious collector's items costing many times what you would have paid for them originally.

Okay, so are there any downsides?

In all honesty, it's hard to think of any. The glass is either plastic or plain glass and not sapphire crystal like those on expensive watches, which means the glass can get scratched pretty easily.

Some of the straps don't last as long as the case. Some canvas or leather straps can wear out and need to be replaced. Also, the watches may be water-resistant but Swatch watches that come with leather or canvas straps shouldn't ever be exposed to water. Anyhow, getting replacement straps is easy, can be ordered online and is cheap.

Talking of straps, the plastic straps have plastic buckles and pins and these can sometime break but again, they are easily replaceable.

Obviously, you aren't going to get some of the fancier features that other watches have; no chronograph, annual calendars, dive readings, or moon phase.

But enough criticism, Swatch watches are for those who want a watch that's affordable, expressive, individualistic and, above all, fun.
