The Difference between APA and MLA Format

The Difference between APA and MLA Format

The two most popular formats used in writing research papers are the APA and MLA format. The APA style, created by the American Psychological Association, is the preferred choice in the fields of psychology and social sciences. The MLA format, on the other hand, was produced by the Modern Language Association and is widely used in the fields of liberal arts and humanities. Being aware of the differences between the two will help you easily recognize the styles upon seeing them and enable you to follow the correct guidelines when writing your own paper.

As stated earlier, the users of the different styles belong to different academic fields. The APA format is mostly used in technical writing as well as in scientific papers. The MLA format is believed to be [g]enerally simpler and more concise according to the Modern Language Association. It can also be seen used in press releases, literary journals, and even in corporate reports.

The format of in-text citations between the two formats also differ slightly. The MLA format requires the authors last name and the page number while the APA format requires the authors last name and the date within a parenthesis.

While both formats require you to cite your sources in a bibliography, they use different labels for it. The MLA format refers to this section as Works Cited while the APA style uses the term References. Both of the styles list the citation entries alphabetically according to the authors last name. However, how the names are listed within each entry differs. For the APA style, the last name is followed by the first initial. The MLA format, on the other hand, lists the last name followed by the first name. For entries with more than 3 authors, the MLA format allows the use of et al. following the name of the first author. The APA format will require you to list down the names of up to 6 authors. The et al. is only used if the source has more than 6 authors.

The title page and the headers in both formats also differ. The MLA style does not require a title page but the APA style does. The title page for the APA style includes the title of the paper, your name, and the name of the institution you are affiliated with. While both styles ask that you use headers, they require different details to be included. The APA style will require Running head: followed by part of your title plus the page number on the title page. Subsequent pages will only require the title and the page number. The MLA format also has a header on the first page but will only include the authors name and page number.

One other difference that you should take note of is the tense used in each format. The MLA style is written in the present tense while the APA style is written in the past tense.

There are many elements that go into the French country kitchen including the use of large pieces of furniture made mainly of light colored woods and can be decorated with ornate carving.

Color is an important place to start the design process. You can draw inspiration from some of the principle French impressionists like Monet and Renoir, Van Gogh. Colors that are used in the French country kitchen style can include sunny yellow or soft gold, bright red and rust, grass green, cobalt blue and soft ocean tones.

You can decorate in the style of the French country kitchen design by using vivid colors - poppy red, sunflower yellow, bright blue, meadow green, and sunset purple. Your walls and cabinets and large furniture can be painted in off white, ivory, light beige, and taupe. Cabinets can be painted a glossy white to brighten light-filled spaces in the kitchen or they can be left as natural wood. These colors can provide a light, airy feel so you do not want to use strong colors here. In fabrics such as curtains and seat cushions you might also add paisley, stripes and floral prints to your French Country Kitchen theme.

Natural Materials
Natural materials are an important element in walls, cabinetry and furniture that is used in the design of French country kitchens. The materials used in creating a rustic French country kitchen look include natural stone floors, granite counter tops and tumbled marble back splashes. These natural materials can be used on walls and beamed ceilings, and can be rough stained or painted plaster, or wood painted in natural colors. Floors can be made of stone or brick and covered with wool or cotton rugs, a fireplace made of stone with a heavy beam that can serve as a mantel, and wooden shutters as window coverings. Furniture and cabinets can have a rustic or even a distressed look. Countertops can be done in ceramic tile with tile back splashes.

Accent Pieces

Ceramic tiles and terra cotta pottery pieces are used wherever possible. Add copper pots and a French country kitchen can can encompass many old world decorating colors.

Pizza is now a very popular meal that can satiate hunger and keep one full for a long time. Pizza came a long way from its Italian origins since there are now a lot of pizza varieties and pizzerias to choose from. There are a number of pizza styles and variations which a person can consider. Some of the pizza styles are named after the place where they have originated.

The New York style pizza is one of the most famous styles of pizza that is loved by many people. This pizza-style originated in New York City in the early 1900s. This is also considered as the only American style pizza that resembles the Naples, Italy style pizza more closely. The New York style pizza is characterized by wide, thin, and foldable slices. The most typical toppings of this pizza style were limited to tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. It is also characterized by having a puffy and bread-like outer crust that immediately narrows down to a very thin, crisp middle. The crust typically looks dark brown since there are no pans used to cook it. To cook the New York style pizza, it is assembled on a pizza peel and then placed directly on the oven deck. It is also said that this pizza style is best cooked using either wood or coal-fired ovens. It can even be cooked in a deck and even electric ovens. The slices are also usually eaten as a street snack thus it must be folded in half. The New York style pizza's size and flexibility makes it awkward to eat flat.

The New York style pizza is very famous around the world, not only in New York. This pizza style has various versions depending on whose making it. However, what makes this pizza-style genuinely different from other types of pizza is its yellow oily trails, which is linked to the fresh Grande mozzarella cheese that is typically used by New York pizzerias. This pizza style is typically baked in an 18" pan, and cut into 8 portions and often sold per slice.

If you are looking for a pizzeria that offers excellent New York style pizza, you can easily order online or pick up a phone. You can have any style of pizza you want since each pizza has its own taste, toppings, and flavors. You just have to pick one that will satisfy your cravings and your hunger.

The Best Things to Learn from Dad

The Best Things to Learn from Dad

Unlike all the obvious guides in the world, there is no handbook for Dads. While women get to read loads of stuff of how to cope up with being a mom, Ive never come across any comprehensive guidebook for Dads. They watch their wives going through the pain helplessly, and wait patiently for the little miracle to come in the world and change their world forever. Whoever says Mothers are the only ones close to the children. A Father is the first love of his daughter and the first best friend of his son. Just like you cant substitute the love of a Mother, Fathers too are irreplaceable.

What is a Father to the Child

1] Fathers are the Bible of the world

He is the one who tells you the ugly truth of the world. Without his guidance, we would still be living in our dreamland of happiness and thinking everything and everyone out there will make us happy. We unknowingly learn from his everyday struggle. I learned how to use money, respect, patience, tolerance, forgiveness and even anger in the real world through him.

2] Fathers are always there

Every time he held my hand in the crowd, I knew he will save me from everything, and that I can peacefully eat my candy. Even when I grew up and it was time to face the world, I stepped out with the confidence of him watching my back, always.

3] Fathers teach how to struggle and never give up

Watching dad throughout our childhood we learn how to make our way in the mad race. Isnt it? He never comes home and gives us a lecture of how to make a living, but we learn it from his face that looks like a warrior tired after a war. We may hear him cribbing or even hating his work, but still everyday he gets up kiss us and goes back for his struggle, only to give us a life of happiness.

4] Fathers teach to eat with family

There were times when I had friends to catch up, favorite shows to watch and went through the infamous- leave me alone teenage phase. Whatever the reason may be, it all became null and void when Daddy called at the dinner table. This simple habit taught me the importance of coming back to the family no matter where on world were you the whole day. That has always been my favorite time of the day.

5] Fathers teach the difference between want and need

Remember when we really wanted something and thought we just cant live without it, and dad who always says yes to everything suddenly said NO! It took time to realize but he knew as inexperienced children we cannot differentiate between want and needs, so for us, he did that job, always.

6] Fathers have many faces- Teacher, Disciplinarian and even Clown

If fathers can draw a line, they are the ones who override orders (mommies) and lets you live too. He helps you with your homework at night and even draws your diagrams just to ensure you dont get scolded in school. Every time I made a mistake, its dad who I feared the most. Father is the disciplinarian who brings back our conscience and teaches us how to apologize and helps us correct our mistakes. At times when no one understands you and laughs at you at your funny paper boat, he is the one who claps and applauds your creation. He is the one who plays with you only to lose always, so that you can feel like a winner.

7] Fathers are the pillars of strength- They dont cry

Every father knows, in the childs eyes his father is the hero. A hero who protects, fights for us, brings gifts, laughs and plays with them and still never gets tired. A father is the shoulder to cry on and get strength for the entire family. He knows it is important for him to be the hero so that the child can get the strength to keep fighting and never give up. That is why, fathers dont cry- even if they want to.

8] Fathers teach you to love your family

No matter how much he wanted to go for his office party, he stayed back to help me with my exam preparations. He came back tired from office wanted to watch a movie but instead calmed me down by putting my favorite channel. Never for once did he complain why he should come to wonderland when what he really wanted was to sleep and rest at home.

The endless sacrifices that a father makes to ensure his family is happy makes you wonder what we would do without him. As much as we love our mother, our father completes our personality and makes us a better person. Happy Fathers Day, Dad!

The Best Sex Positions

The Best Sex Positions

There are a lot of books and guides out there with, like, a ja-zillion sex positions...

A good many of them are either anatomically impossible if you haven't been doing Yoga or gymnastics for at least 10 years, and a good many are just uncomfortable and not particularly good for sexual enjoyment.

But you don't need to know a ja-zillion sex positions... what you want to know is:

What sex positions really work the best?

Are there sex positions that are better than others for giving a woman more powerful orgasms?

Are there sex positions that are better for male "staying power"?

Are there love making positions that can promote intimacy? Or intercourse positions for "smaller" or "larger men"?

And, of course, are there sex positions that can hit the g spot or the clitoris?

The answer is, "Yes," to all of the above.

I will answer all of these questions in this "how to."

And yep, these sex positions really work... and I won't even need any diagrams or illustrations to explain them to you, because they are all very simple variations on what you are already doing.

***Woman On Her Back Sex Positions

The basic position with the woman on her back, the man on top, is referred to as "missionary" position.

It's a big favorite because you are face to face, and it can be very intimate and loving.

Here are some variations that you might enjoy...

For women who need clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm (and there are a lot of them), there is a position called "The Coital Alignment Technique", or CAT.

Here's how it works...

Start in missionary position, man on top. He scoots up about 6 inches so that the angle of penetration is sharply downward, then she wraps her legs around him, crosses her ankles, and then works them down around his calves. If you got this part right, then the top of the penis will now be making strong contact with your clitoris. And then...

SHE controls the motion by rocking her hips forward and back. This allows the woman to adjust the pressure and the speed of the stimulation against her clitoris.

Once she's got that going, he can start a thrusting motion in time with her rhythm. The whole thing takes a little practice, but once you get it going, most couples report major points on the scream-o-meter.

For the g spot (and for men who are very large, or if she sometimes finds it uncomfortable when penetration is too deep), try this one...

The man sits back on his heels and pulls the woman's hips onto his knees. Penetration is at a sharp upward angle. A little experimentation with the motion, and he might be able to poke at the g spot, or further back at the anterior fornix (another spot that many woman report has powerfully orgasmic results).

Added bonus: his hands are free, which means it's possible to massage the clitoris or breasts, or just stroke her hair and face, or hold her hands.

And, finally, for marathon sessions...

The man stands at the edge of the bed between the woman's legs. Depending on whether her legs are up or down, the angle can be changed to suit your pleasure.

Because it takes weight off the base of the penis, most men find it much easier to withhold ejaculation for much longer in this position... PLUS... the thrusting motion is easier and there's lots of air circulation around your body to keep you cool... Get ready to set your new all-time record!

***Woman On Her Belly Sex Positions

All of these "from behind" sex positions are sometimes referred to as "doggy style"... and between that unfortunate name and so many women in our culture having sensitivities to the appearance of their rear... plus, the lack of face-to-face intimacy... there are some women out there who just don't like the idea of these positions.

That's a shame. Because many other women report these positions to be their favorite.

We're all familiar with the basics so...

For a man with a smaller penis... if her hips are in the air and her face is on the pillow, you are now in the intercourse position that allows the deepest penetration possible. (And if you are with a man who is larger, go slow and careful at this one).

And, at the opposite extreme, it is possible to contact both her clitoris and g spot from behind with this little bit of creativity...

She lies down flat on her belly, he straddles her legs, she lifts her hips slightly so that he can slide one or both hands beneath her pelvis.

His palm right beneath her pubic bone provides just the right amount of tilt and feels amazing for both partners.

From this position, the angle of penetration can hit the g spot, and he can curls his fingers between her legs to stimulate her clitoris (or just cup her vulva, which can also feel very good during thrusting).

For bonus points, the nape of the woman's neck (one of the most potent female erogenous zones) is open for licking or light biting...

The neighbors will hate you from all the screaming.

***Woman On Top Sex Positions

Typically the woman will straddle the man and rest on her knees. Most women love these love making positions because they get to run the show for a change, and... since women are naturally more clever than men with the motion of their hips (unless he happens to be a professional salsa dancer)... she can get a lot of control over the depth, angle, and intensity of intercourse.

The problem?

For many women, this position begins to hurt the knees after only a short time.

The solution?

A narrow chair with no arms, a piano bench, or... if you are into home fitness... a weight bench is perfect.

Allowing her to get her feet onto the floor can really turbo-charge any girl-on-top sex positions and, since these are usually intercourse positions that make it easier for men to withhold ejaculation, you can settle in for a nice long love making session!

And, finally, for spiritual love making that might just take you, literally, out of this world...

The buddhist monks of Tibet have a sacred tantric sex position known as "yab yum"... though, I'll warn you in advance, it takes some flexibility in the guy.

Here's how you can yab yum too... The man sits with the soles of his feet together and knees apart (The yoga position is known as baddha konasana). The woman then straddles him and wraps her legs around his back.

For extra credit in this spiritual sex position... the man butterflies his knees up and down to control the motion. Now place your foreheads together to align your chakras, place the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth to complete the energetic circuit, and take long... slow... synchronized breaths through the nose.

...And I'll see you on the astral plain!

One of the most efficient and effortless ways to get into shape is through swimming. Whether you are just planning on swimming to get fit and stay active, or you are adept at swimming and are looking for a swimsuit that is perfect for your next trip to the beaches, choosing a swimsuit is not an easy task. While it may look like you can just pick something up and go with it, it is not that easy with the thousands of different types and styles of swimwear and swimming costumes you can choose from available on the market that can confuse you.
If you are trying to find a comprehensive guide to help you choose the perfect two-piece costume for your body type and comfort level, this is the ideal article for you to guide you through every aspect of choosing the perfect swimwear for your next trip.

Material The first thing you need to focus on while choosing a swimwear costume is the material that it is going to be made of. While there are a number of fashion swimwear in the market that are made from cotton or polyester, the fact is that fabrics like these are not going to be very comfortable for you to wear. Not only are they quite capable of retaining water, which can make them quite heavy and uncomfortable, they are also quite useless when it comes to providing any kind of support. While these are great for a poolside party, you are definitely not going to want to risk a wardrobe malfunction in front of hundreds of people. Neoprene is a material that is high in strength and is capable of giving you support. The material is flexible, quick drying and really durable. Neoprene swimwear, therefore, is the way to go.

Types A bikini is one of the most popular types of swimwear and can look great on anyone. Whether you opt for a neoprene bikini in the traditional string tie style, which is a little less secure or a sporty style which is more ergonomically designed or anything in between, the trick is to find something that you feel comfortable in and that shows the amount of skin you are comfortable in. Neoprene, being a shaping material, you can be assured that no matter what style you pick, it will cling to your body and emphasize your curves perfectly. If you wish to be more modest, a one-piece monokini can also be a good idea for you.

If you are a beginner and are not quite comfortable with swimming, neoprene life jackets can be a great option that can help you out and help you feel more comfortable while swimming. These life jackets can add buoyancy and can help you feel lighter, which can help you float while you are in the water, making it the ideal top for beginners who are not quite confident enough to swim.

Colors There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to colors. Whether you want to opt for solid colors or prints, it should be entirely your choice. A great idea can be to pair a printed top with solid bottoms or to go for a coordinated top and bottom style.

With these tips and ideas, you can pick the best swimsuit for your next vacation or for practice.

With the best neoprene life jackets and neoprene bikini helping you stay comfortable, dry and secure, you can experience the exquisite joy of swimming and experience the happiness that comes with it.

The Benefits Of Surgical Steel Earrings

The Benefits Of Surgical Steel Earrings

Image source: http://g03.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1uXlEIpXXXXXuXFXXq6xXFXXXh/SHUIMEI-8pcs-Surgical-Steel-Tragus-Stud-Earring-Ear-Cartilage-Barbell-With-Opal-Piercing-Body-Jewelry-Free.jpg

People often think that surgical and stainless steel are completely different metals; in fact, surgical steel is a type of stainless steel. Surgical steel is a combination of iron and chromium, an ideal combination of elements when used to make jewelry that most people can wear. Since earlobes are more sensitive than other parts of the body, skin-compatible earrings must be worn to prevent irritation. The combination of iron and chromium is what gives surgical steel earrings certain advantages over earrings made of gold or silver.

Because surgical steel is composed of chromium, it is rust proof. This is especially useful in the area around the ear, and is very convenient since a person can leave on his or her earrings while taking a shower or bathing without fear of rust. Also, the chromium in the earrings prevents corrosion from constant exposure to hair oils and sweat. These earrings when left in jewelry boxes or stored on racks are exposed to household dust but won't corrode over time. Earrings with posts containing chromium can be worn repeatedly, saving money and allowing for those irreplaceable earrings of sentimental value to be around for a lifetime.

Although there are many people who have allergies to the metals in some earrings, surgical steel posts don't elicit the same allergic reactions. After all, this metal is used in something as sensitive and crucial as surgery since very few people have allergic reactions to the steel. First-time piercings are usually done using sterilized steel earrings in order to hold the piercing open and allow it to heal properly. Since it's popular for parents to pierce a child's ears during his or her younger years, safe earrings compatible with their child's chemistry are a must. An infection of the earlobe can leave permanent scars, discoloration, collapsing and disfigurement, even with the smallest infections. With this safe metal, infections are kept to a minimum.

Surgical steel is more durable than other kinds of metal such as gold and silver, making it great for those who like to wear earrings but are required to remove them before going to the workplace. Unlike gold and silver which can easily and accidentally be bent by fingertips alone, bending steel takes a noticeable effort. Since steel earrings cannot be scratched or bent, constant removal or rough treatment won't have any effect on their appearance.

Compared to gold, silver and platinum jewelry, steel earrings are very inexpensive. Many people keep jewelry inside a special case, only to be worn during special occasions to minimize the chances of losing their precious heirlooms. Steel earrings can be found in just about every fashion store, with styles to suit any personality. Precious metals are used in crafting jewelry that is usually classy and elegant, but not very versatile in terms of creativity. Steel earrings, however, give the wearer freedom to express themselves in many shapes, colors, sizes and lengths. While a jeweler probably wouldn't craft earrings made of precious metals with feathers, neon plastic pieces and crocheted designs attached, steel earrings have no boundaries to stifle their individuality.

The Benefits of Abstract Paintings

The Benefits of Abstract Paintings

Abstractionism is one of the most far-reaching movements in contemporary art. It is based on the rejection of painting life-like forms and aims to stimulate people's consciousness through associations that are based on a combination of colours and imagery. Abstract paintings became popular at the beginning of the 20th century.

Masters of abstract paintings were such famous painters as Kazimir Malevich, Francis Pikabiya, Vasilii Kandinskii and many others. Nowadays, abstract paintings are enjoyed by many connoisseurs of fine work which justifies their considerable value.

1. Limitations: Abstract works of art can be incorporated harmoniously into practically any stylistic, contemporary interior. Abstract pictures can provide a stark accent to unobtrusive, soft dcor. They can also enhance the setting and add vigour to diluted, pastel shades with splashes of colour.

2. Relevancy: In essence, abstract paintings are unique in comparison to any other contemporary movement in the field of interior design. They can suit a range of styles from contemporary dcors to minimalistic interiors and ethnic motifs.

3. Multicolour: There are no definite rules as to the use of colour in abstract paintings, therefore, you can always find a stylish abstract canvas to suit your choice of interior.

4. Conforming to Individual Demands: Abstract art conjures up different associations for different people. Some associations may be individual to people, some may be common. Because of their versatility, people can always pick out an abstract work of art that suits their particular needs.

5. Influence on Spirituality: With regard to a person's mental well-being, abstract works of art can act as an antidote for weariness and depression. They are actively used as a form of Art Therapy. In their abstract works of art, skilful artists may create any symbols that can stimulate the human psyche and influence certain emotive states.

6. Formulation of the Image: Anyone who has abstract paintings hanging on the walls of their living room or office has incredibly good taste. These paintings give hints that the person is contemporary in their style and is an avid follower of the latest trends in interior design. Abstract canvases can be displayed for all to see on the walls of living rooms, offices, clubs and restaurants.

Abstract art is not generally associated with functional premises, although it can be used alongside them. An abstract painting can be a great present for anyone who values style or who really understands contemporary paintings. These works of art can be given as a present at any occasion; the main thing is to pay attention to what is depicted on the canvas.

In summary, having familiarised yourself with the fundamental values and advantages of abstract paintings, you can decide which ones to choose for yourself or which ones to give as a present for someone else.

The Prada handbag is still found on supermodel arms and decorated red carpet women. The signature silver triangle is the undeniable symbol of the Prada brand name. Even as people get crafty and create knock-offs of the wanted name brand of Prada, it only helps its success as a coveted label to own. Even today, the Prada Handbag refuses to go out of style, functional and fashionable. Todays style is patent leather, shiny metallics and bold colors. Even though Prada handbags may never venture anywhere near the bold colors of bright yellow or turquoise, you may see some shiny black or shiny white shades. Large Prada handbags are still high fashion. Big enough to hold an entire change of clothes, maybe its nice to have your carry-on bag substitute itself as luggage as well as purse. Miuccia claims that her husband is the business side of her company and she continues to focus on the art side of things. Her latest exhibit is a collection of skirts that she made called the waist down. All of her clothing stores are built around a high sense of style and are architecturally flawless in design. She is an artist with her clothes and places her art in a gallery like setting. The Bedroom Every Bachelor Should Have

The Bedroom Every Bachelor Should Have

Let's face the facts ' every man wants to have a woman-trap for a bedroom. A bachelor pad should be a statement of masculinity as well as a trap for women. How can a single man bring out the most in his bedroom so that he feels comfortable in it all the time and also has a place where he can bring any lady friends he meets along the way? He should start by picking out the perfect design among the many headboards on the market. One major consideration would be leather headboards, since leather has a very elegant but masculine appeal to it.

The rest of the bedroom can be designed around the headboard dcor, creating a theme. This shouldn't be difficult for most men, since they have more basic style needs and preferences than women. For example, a man knows right away if he likes contemporary style because he can identify the simplicity of his taste. If he likes intricate and imposing design, he'll go for a classical look. Often, men like rustic or western dcor, and a wrought iron and wood bed may be a great addition to the bedroom to bring out such a style. It's really easy to create this type of design, especially after choosing a headboard with a rustic look or the correctly carved pattern to make it appear western in style.

The master bedroom furniture may be the largest element in the room but is by far not the most important in creating a bachelor's bedroom. Often, it's the small things that really make it appealing to both the tenant and the visitor. Having personal items in the room, like photos and frames or little knick knacks here and there make it feel lived in and comfortable. Without these little touches, the room will just feel like an impersonal space, similar to a hotel room. Even wall hangings of prints that are chosen randomly can be a key to personality and can add flavor to a simple and empty bedroom. A few throw pillows or an area rug can easily impart character to an empty space and make it feel more inviting for both home owner and guest.

A final consideration is the size of the bed. Many times, it may not seem important to a single person to upsize, and they may stick with a small twin or full sized bed for simplicity's sake. Still, if today's bachelor wants to impress or intends to invite a woman up for a nightcap and perhaps a little something more, king-sized furniture may be more appropriate. King wood beds tend to seem the most masculine and may be the first choice of many bachelors looking to outfit the perfect bedroom for their needs. A bachelor is lucky to be able to design his own space without the requirements of a wife or girlfriend being taken into account. He has complete freedom of choice, and he should take advantage of the opportunity to build out the perfect bachelor's bedroom while he has the chance.

The Basics Of Men's Autumn Fashion

The Basics Of Men's Autumn Fashion

Image source: https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1FPkxLXXXXXbdXFXXq6xXFXXXB/Free-shipping-in-the-autumn-of-2016-the-new-comfortable-natural-fashion-simple-basic-men-hoodies.jpg

With spring and summer seasons finally coming to an end, combined with the autumn and winter months now well and truly amongst us. Its important to re-think your wardrobe and prepare for the autumn/winter collections. T-shirts and shorts are no longer required and warm clothes such as knit jumpers, leather jackets and jeans now becoming the staple of our clothing choices. With the combination of new colours and styles.

The previous years of mens fashion, particularly during the winter months, were predominantly focussed on dark colours. With black or navy knitted jumpers or jackets at the forefront. But in 2012 there is a large change. With colours being used to emphasise individuality and also style. Not to mention the come back of the leather bomber jacket. This type of jacket has made an alarming comeback with large appeal throughout fashion shows. Being a large testament to time, with its iconic look the leather bomber jacket, and leather jackets in general, are a men's staple autumn/fashion item. The bomber jacket has high versatility and their usual cropped length, combined with an increased selection of colours help sets itself apart from any other piece of clothing.

Assisting the leather bomber jacket this season is the increased focus on military apparel. From aviator sunglasses to trench coats combined with the key green and khaki colours. So expect to see a high number of military inspired designs this autumn and winter. This includes fashion items with embellishments and embroidered epaulettes, helping make each fashion piece stand out. But lets not forget the current demand, especially for those in the UK, for outerwear. From lightweight jackets to leather jackets and heavy wool trench coats.

Moving from the heavy leathers and military inspired designs, lets view the lighter but highly essential fashion items this season. Such as the other staple knitwear. Jumpers are simple and attractive and more importantly warm. Featuring simple but classic colours and a variety of ribbed and cable stitching. Also, consider adding cardigans to your wardrobe this winter, as these not only provide another thick layering during the colder months but also help compliment stripe and plaid shirts. Helping provide individuality and colour into an often dull and colourless outfit.

Finally, lets focus on blazers, which are often underrated and overlooked. For example tweed blazers are an ideal layer to help fight against the cold. Although many consider the blazer as formal wear, that can only be worn at special occasion. In fact its versatility during summer and winter months is again over looked. The elegance and warmth it provides is unmatched, with its casual appeal becoming more present. For example, layering a blazer with many of the current fashionable mens t-shirts, and jeans with brogues is a smart and casual appearance, but also with a hint of elegance.

Consider all of these top fashion tips this autumn and winter, and learn to escape the cold whilst remaining fashionable and keeping up with the current trends. The key is to remember to always try going out of your comfort zone. It is by doing this new styles and unexpected clothing will become visible and increase your outlook and options.

The Artists Brain Explained by Science

The Artists Brain Explained by Science

The Artists Brain: Explained by Science

Weve always known artists are a little different.

They think, talk, and work differently than the rest of us. Most of them even dress differently.

It should come as no surprise then that the most recent scientific studies show that artists brains are distinctively different than the rest of the population.

Dr. Rebecca Chamberlain of KU Leuven University in Belgium had noticed that most visual artists described seeing their work in their heads before they ever put pen to paper or brush to canvas.

She suspected that there are fundamental differences in artists brains. So she did what any self-respecting scientist would do: she led an experiment to find out.

In the study, researchers had 21 art students and 23 non-artists complete a number of tasks. During each task, they scanned their brains through a process called voxel-based morphometry.

Voxel-based morphometry is a neuroimaging technique that lets the scientists identify differences in brain structure between individuals.

And through these experiments, Dr. Chamberlain made a few important discoveries.

Changes in structure

The brain scans showed that artists brains had some distinctive differences.

Most notably, they have more gray matter in the parietal lobe. Specifically in a structure called the precuneus.

The parietal lobe processes information from the senses. This region is responsible for our visual and spatial reasoning.

According to the study, individuals with more developed visual reasoning are better at creating pictures in their head.

This suggests that before a painter even dips their black velvet brushes into the paint, their painting already exists in the parietal lobe. This inner picture guides the artist in a way that nonartists cant emulate.

Nature or nurture?

These findings raise an important question. Are artists better at drawing because they have an enlarged precuneus? Or has their precuneus increased in size after years of training?

Certainly, our habits can change our brain structure over time. Just like with our muscles, our brain changes with exercise.

Dr. Chamberlain states, It falls into line with evidence that focus of expertise really does change the brain. The brain is incredibly flexible in response to training and there are huge individual differences that we are only beginning to tap into.

But could it be possible that artists have an enlarged parietal lobe before they even start honing their craft? Are certain people innately predisposed to be artists?

Determining this would require a much longer study with a larger sample size.

Scientists would need to study subjects before they even begin practicing their artistic skills. The study would then follow them through all of their training, comparing changes in their brain structure to non-artists.

Such a study would take decades and is unlikely to attract much interest in the way of funding.

The myth of the Right side

For a long time, the common understanding of brain structure was that the left hemisphere is more analytical and the right side is more creative. Therefore, more creative people have a more dominant right hemisphere.

However, according to this study, artists have increased gray matter on both sides of their brain. This is a significant blow to the myth of right-brain dominance.

The Art of the French Revolution

The Art of the French Revolution

The art of pre-revolutionary France was decidedly frivolous in its subject matter and deliciously detailed in style. Paintings were commissioned by the wealthy for their grant chateaus and palaces in delicate pastel colors. This period of art was called "rococo," from the French decorative term rocaille, and was highly ornamental. Common subjects of rococo art include young lovers, pastoral scenes, outdoor games, and then-fashionable portraits. Cherubs are omnipresent in rococo art, and more often than not are accompanied by scrolls, inexplicable clouds of flower petals, and swathes of fabric. One highly recognizable piece of Rococo art is a painting called The Swing by Jean Honor-Fragonard. It depicts a woman in a voluminous pink dress enjoying a ride on a swing, while two men look on cheerfully. The subtle sexual undertones of the painting - it's implied that the woman isn't wearing undergarments - made the painting a scandalous success when it debuted.

Rococo decorative art was exceptionally elaborate and very expensively made. Rococo pieces are the pride of decorative arts collections in museums worldwide. The palace of Versailles was decorated in the Rococo style. Versailles is ornately detailed, and can best be described as a palace of luxury overload. Floors are made of intricately tiled panels of marble. Mirrors are several feet tall, and many feature intricate cherub sculptures at the corners. Busts of Roman emperors are prominent as the classical period was very fashionable in the eighteenth century. Even sofas, upholstered in finest floral silk are trimmed by gilded wooden sculptures of leaves. Asymmetry was popular in Rococo designs, which meant that the leaves on one side of the sofa were unlikely to mirror exactly the leaves on the other side.

A shift in the political climate meant a shift in aesthetic preference. After the political upheaval of the French Revolution, the lower classes wanted nothing to do with the oppressively wealthy upper classes and their prissy art preference. The levity of Rococo art was abandoned in favor of emotional, intense imagery with a revolutionary energy about it. This period of art was known as Baroque art, from a French word describing irregularly shaped pearls. An easily recognizable piece of Baroque art is the cover of the recent Coldplay album, whatsthepaintingsname. In this painting, a rather disheveled woman is depicted leading fervent troops to battle. Enemy corpses are being trampled upon as the proud woman raises the French flag. This painting contains all the hallmarks of Baroque painting - excitement on a grand emotional level, with violent undertones.

While there certainly was nothing wrong with the art of the Rococo era, the lower classes understandably found fault with the unequal distribution of wealth in French society. Marie Antoinette famously had little regard for the welfare of her subjects. Rococo art represented to the French revolutionaries all that was wrong with French society at the time. It was no wonder then that the Revolutionaries set about hacking to pieces Rococo portraits of nobility as they stormed the estates of Paris.

The Art Of Joinery - Devil In The Details

The Art Of Joinery - Devil In The Details

An expert joiner was once asked why bespoke joinery was important when creating elements of a home - why a joiner rather than a carpenter who could do the job for a lot less money. The answer to that question is quite telling - "would you ask a decorator to paint you a masterpiece?" Was the reply. It is the difference between getting a piece of work that might do the job, but wouldn't be anything you'd want to display. When it comes to certain structures throughout your home, joinery just makes sense if you want to add style and beauty.

A great example of the difference between carpentry and joinery is the construction of a roof. With a carpenter, you would get a practical and functional roof that you would then cover over with wallboard or sheetrock and paint. With a joiner, you would get a gorgeous worked-wood roof that would be displayed without any covering for the beauty of the work itself. The same concept holds true for bespoke staircases. Normal construction can put in a staircase, even a wood one, and it would definitely be something you could live with and use with impunity. A staircase built with joinery would be just as practical and functional, but it would end up a conversation piece for anyone who sees it. This is a definite and distinct difference in building philosophy.

Staircases, cabinetry, storage, furniture, windows and doors are all avenues of creativity for the use of joinery. An expert joiner can listen to the home owner, measure the area to be added to, understand the goal of the home owner and then work up a plan to craft the desired piece according to the owner's wishes. Once the piece is done, the home owner will have something that has added immeasurable value to their home while being practical and usable at the same time.

With joinery, windows can have custom casements, window seats and trim that can't be produced by other means. Staircases can be straight, curved or angled with customized rails that work in concert with the other design elements of the house. Doorways can become more than a way to get from room to room if joinery is used to frame and finish them. Kitchens are prime ground for joinery with custom cabinets and woodwork to highlight architectural details or add function. Built-in furniture such as a drop-leaf desk combined with a bookcase to create an instant and disguised office space or storage cabinets disguised as additional seating provide fertile ground for bespoke joinery. DB Specialist Joinery Ltd provides the custom and bespoke joinery Kent home owners appreciate and want in their homes.

When you consider a custom piece of work for your home, think about DB Specialist Joinery Ltd - they can provide you with the beauty and style you are looking for along with that practical functionality you need, all in one gorgeous piece of work because it is the details that make the difference between ordinary and extraordinary.

The Advantages to Using the APA format

The Advantages to Using the APA format

Writers often are required to use one out of several different formats when writing a paper. For the behavioral and social sciences as well as in education, the APA format is the preferred choice. This format was created by the American Psychological Association in 1929 to establish rules in structuring a paper that will enable ease of reading for both publishers and readers. There are several advantages to using this format in your paper.

The APA format is widely used in many fields of academia. By using the APA format in your paper, you are less likely to have to restructure your paper upon submittal to your professor, the journals editor, or a publisher. It also means that it is not necessary for you to learn many formats when writing about different topics. The APA format also gives structure and order in your paper, making it more professional and formal. It also lends credibility to the paper because many readers, particularly in the scientific fields, are accustomed to reading works in this format. And those that fail to comply are sometimes met with doubt and shock.

Another advantage to using the APA style is that it leaves you no room to wonder about how the contents should be structured. The rules set within this format detail the size of the margins, the spacing required, and even what font should be used. It also gives the writer instructions on how sources should be cited within the body paragraphs and in the references section. Page numbers, headings, and even abbreviations also are discussed in the APA Formats manual. Knowing how to structure your paper will enable you to focus more on your content.

Using the APA format also allows the writer to further develop his or her writing skills. While many are aware that the format has set rules for structuring a paper, it also discusses the ins and outs of grammar that will help any writer. In addition, it also helps develop a persons critical thinking skills. It promotes unbiased writing and asks writers to ensure that their paper has a neutral perspective. This includes avoiding the use of gender pronouns and making sure that there is no bias contained in any of the text.

Writers are also able to use images in their paper with the APA style. The guidelines include how writers can insert and use charts, tables, and graphs in their paper for ease of reading the data and in understanding it as well. While the written text can be a powerful thing, images enable readers to quickly grasp the concepts presented in the paper, particularly in the scientific fields where a huge amount of numbers may be required in presenting data.

The last, but certainly not the least, advantage that one has when using the APA format is the presence of numerous materials that will help writers in learning and using the format. The APA manual can easily be referenced through the APA website, which also has several tutorials and examples for writers. Because of its pervasive use, there are also numerous other sources of information that can be found online about how to use this format. While it can certainly be challenging to use at first, the popularity of the format helps writers find it easier to learn with so many guides to choose from.

The Advantages of Composite Doors over Wooden Doors.

The Advantages of Composite Doors over Wooden Doors.

When you are designing your house, think of switching over to composite doors. These doors are the in thing in home designing and are very much in demand-the reason being that they are much stronger, cheaper and better than the old wooden doors. Composite doors look like wooden doors but are very easy to maintain and are long lasting. Eminent architects and interior designers today prefer composite doors over the wooden doors.

Let's run through the many advantages of composite doors. These doors are made from glass and aluminum in combination with other materials. Composite doors are more durable than their wooden counterparts. Even doors made from the best possible wood are not termite resistant and tend to wear off with every passing year. Their polish and gloss seems to loose any shine. Over exposure to water tends to rot wooden doors. Once they wear off the only option is to replace them, which is again a costly affair. On the other hand the composite doors are not only durable and strong buy also retain their beauty and strength.

Composite doors are much secured than the wooden doors. If you are serious about the safety of your house they are the best option. Burglars and thieves can easily break down wooden doors but it is indeed difficult to break through the invincible composite doors. The cost of maintenance and repair of a wooden door is much higher and over the years it becomes a recurring cost. Composite doors are known for hassle free maintenance as they are termite resistant, and can survive all types of weather. It is much easier and lighter for your pocket

Composite doors are available in a wide array of designs, styles and colors. If you love variety, you can always choose different designs for your front door or back door or even mix and match by trying different permutations and combinations of color, style and design. Unlike the old wooden doors these composite doors come with optional attachments like spy holes and door knockers.

The front door of the house serves as the first impression for anyone visiting your house. Are you fond of wooden doors and yet you want it to be termite resistant, strong and durable you can opt for a composite door with wooden finish. Composite doors with glass sections can lend a distinct style to your house. For the glass sections also, you have a wide variety to choose from like a plain glass, glazed glass or even a painted or stained glasses in myriad hues.

Last but not the least, the indirect benefit of using composite doors is to support the Go Green' movement. Deforestation is a serious concern in today's world and has been identified as a prime cause of global warming. Each year thousands of trees are cut down for firewood and furniture, of course including doors. By choosing a composite door for your home you will be saving more trees and contributing your bit in saving the environment.

The ADHD Entrepreneurial Brain-style

The ADHD Entrepreneurial Brain-style

Starting your own business is like riding a roller coaster. There are highs and lows and every turn you take is another twist. The lows are really low, but the highs can be really high. You have to be strong, keep your stomach tight, and ride along with the roller coaster that you started. ~ Lindsay Manseau

Did you know that adults with ADHD are 300% more likely to be entrepreneurs? With the current economy, more and more people are deciding to create their own success by venturing into entrepreneurial business. Although its popularity has recently increased, the term entrepreneur was initially defined in the late 1600s by an Irish-French economist, Richard Cantillon. According to Cantillon, an entrepreneur refers to an owner or manager of a business enterprise who makes money through risk and initiative. Risk and initiative.hmmm.sounds ADHD-like to me! I think it is fair to say that ADHD and entrepreneurs have many brain-style qualities in common. Some of the more famous entrepreneuers that have been diagnosed with ADHD include:

Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Airlines.
Ingvar Kamprad, Swedish founder and chairman of IKEA stores, states he adapted the inner workings of his business to compensate for his ADHD and dyslexia.
David Neeleman founder and CEO of Jet Blue Airways.
Charles Schwab the founder, chairperson, and CEO of the Charles Schwab Corporation, the largest brokerage firm in the U.S.

Although ADHD can create some undeniable obstacles, there are many positive qualities of ADHD that contribute to the success of countless entrepreneurial businesses.

1. Risk Taker
Overall, people with ADHD often do not think about the overall consequences of their actions. Instead, they focus more on whats happening right here in the moment. This is a benefit for the entrepreneur since it means they will act on an opportunity rather than miss it due to over analyzing their actions.

2. Creativity
Successful entrepreneurs and people with ADHD invented the saying thinking outside of the box. With an abundance of thoughts and ideas that come with their over active mind, people with ADHD seem to be constantly creating new concepts for products or service and using this creativity to come up with solutions and strategies otherwise not considered. This creativity is also key to entrepreneurial success and allows these unique brain-styles to notice more possibilities, information and resources that others miss.

3. Ability to Hyperfocus
Success as an entrepreneur means that you will spend hours, months or even years focusing on your business. This unique quality is similar to the hyperfocus people with ADHD experience. When people with ADHD are innately interested in something, they can literally concentrate on this one task while the rest of the world fades away. Gone is timethe outside world and they seem to enter an incredibly focused state of mind I call the zone. Some people with ADHD fondly refer to this as their ADD coma.

4. Multi-tasking
Entrepreneurs are often jack-of-all-trades and are required to wear several hats consecutively. The ADHD brain is at its best when doing several tasks at the same time, especially when these tasks include areas of inherent interests, strengths and passions. An ADHD entrepreneur may struggle with the overwhelm of singularly paying the bills, but combine this otherwise mundane task with entrepreneurial activities such as web browsing, listening to music, talking on the phone and answering emails, and this task is more likely to be completed.

5. High Energy Level
Being the owner of your own business requires a tremendous amount of brain and physical energy. People with ADHD can often tap into their own personal adrenaline source to put in those extra hours, pull those all-nighters, or meet those last minute deadlines.

6. Eats chaos for breakfast!
Running your own business and being an entrepreneur requires the ability to manage chaos, unpredictability and inconsistency. People with ADHD, with their high interest and tolerance for the new and stimulating, are often at their best in what would be a crisis situation for someone else. In fact, these are the exact situations where they tend to be most focused and clear headed.

As an ADHD entrepreneur myself I am often grateful for some of these unique qualities that have helped me to take risks, pursue possibilities others might not have noticed and fuel the determination that has helped my business grow. I would love to read your comments about your unique ADHD qualities and how they have added to the success of your entrepreneurial business!

The 9 obstacles that keep you from achieving your Goals

The 9 obstacles that keep you from achieving your Goals

While you may have spent a lot of time working on your goals for the next year, there are plenty of things that are going to get in your way to achieving them.

Before we go any further lets establish the use of language here. Goals can be substituted with objectives, targets, outcomes, achievements, resolutions, aims, ambitions and any others you can think of. For the purpose of this report, the writer will use Goal.

How often have you started off the year, or next phase of your development with good intentions, and some goals of what you want to achieve, only to find that somehow you never see to achieve them? What I will cover in this article is the 9 biggest obstacles that will get in your way. I will take each one in turn and explore what is behind it, why it is there, and more importantly the action you can take to put it to one side.

What I will also do is evidence this be using the responses of a survey conducted with Sole Traders, and owners of Small and medium Enterprises (SMEs), identifying the challenges they face in the coming year.

Although there are arguably hundreds of potential obstacles, 9 appear most commonly.

1. Lack of information
2. Lack of skill
3. Limiting beliefs
4. Well being
5. Other people
6. Own motivation
7. Time
8. Money
9. Fear

Why have a Goal?
If you needed more reason do set your own goals, in a study conducted on students in the 1979 Harvard MBA program , only three percent of the graduates had written goals and plans; 13 percent had goals, but they were not in writing; and 84 percent had set no goals at all.

Ten years later, the findings revealed that 13 percent of the class who had goals were earning up to 84 percent compared to those who had not set any. For the three percent who defined their goals and wrote them down, they were earning on average, ten times as much as the other 97 percent put together.

They don't know how to set goals. Some set goals that are too general. These are, in reality, fantasies common to everyone. Goals, on the other hand, are clear, written, specific, and measurable.

They fear failure. Failure hurts, but it is often necessary to experience failure in order to achieve the greatest success. Do not unconsciously sabotage yourself by not setting any goals in which you might fail.

They fear rejection. People are often afraid that if they are unsuccessful at achieving a goal, others will be critical of them. This is remedied by keeping your goals to yourself at the outset; let others see your results and achievements once you've accomplished your goals.

What is a Goal?
Other names that are used, explore others use of language. Why do we have them? Different types of goal towards/ away from.
Some goals are called away from goals. These are usually framed in the negative. Here are a few examples.

I dont want to smoke anymore
I dont want to be unfit
I dont want to be overweight
I dont want to be broke

Now lets reframe them in the positive
I am a non smoker
I am fit and healthy
I am at my ideal weight
I can cover my bills

Notice the difference. They are stated in the positive and take on the assumption that you have achieved it already. By assuming as if your behaviour changes so that you are acting like to have already achieved what you wanted to do. What a great feeling to have even before you have got there. It also bolsters your motivation.

So now we have determined if our goal is towards something, or away from something. We have now stated it in the positive. This however is still not a very well detailed goal. We will now look at how we can make it more specific.

An ideal goal should be expressed in the positive, be time bound and specific. You may also like to consider, how will you know when you have achieved it, what will it feel like, what will the people around you be like? What will you do to celebrate it?

A goal must be time bound. When do I want to have achieved it? If thats when I want to achieve it, then when must I start? What is the first step I need to take? Who should I tell? Should telling that person be the first step? What skills or knowledge do I need to acquire along the way?

Goal size, is the goal too big to achieve? If so then breaking it down into smaller bite sized pieces may be the right approach.

How serious are you about this goal. On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being low and 10 being high), how committed are you to this goal? If your answer is less that 7 you are unlikely to follow it up completely. What would you need to do to this goal to move it from a 7 to an 8?

Now that you have really defined your goal you are ready to go. Arent you? So whats stopping you?

I will take each one of the potential obstacles in turn, and elaborate.

Lack of Information
Information can have one of two effects. With too much you can be overwhelmed, and can stop you from making a decision or taking the next steps. With too little information you are not able to put things into perspective, or look at the bigger picture. Identifying where you have gaps in your knowledge, and including this as part of your goal will move you closer to achieving it. There are several ways to obtain new information. Research, planned reading, listening to CDs, DVDs on a specific topic or networking with individuals who have the knowledge to share with you.

Lack of Skill
In order to move forwards you may have to pick up skills along the way. This need not be an enormous challenge. As part of your goal setting, understanding what skills you need to acquire, and how you will acquire them will form steps of your plan. This does not necessarily mean that you need to enrol on a course, although that is a great idea. Other alternatives such as on-line study, planned reading, shadowing a colleague in the workplace, or seeking advice from a friend can also help you obtain the skills you need.

Limiting beliefs
We all have a set of beliefs by which we live our lives. These are set in our subconscious at an early age. Sometimes these beliefs can hold you back and limit your ability to achieve you goals. Some common examples may be familiar to you. Indecision or Procrastination- should I do one thing or another? This often results in you doing nothing. The limiting belief manifests itself as I am not able to make decisions.

Unable to make progress or stuck when a way of working is no longer effective, you continue to use it and often forms a comfort zone, the limiting belief here could be I cant/ wont change. Often people will state that I dont deserve to be successful, or that shouldnt work for me. Here we are seeing self sabotage and not valuing themselves and their own ability. These are only a few examples, but listen out for them and notice how many times you hear yourself saying things like this.

Well being
Despite your best efforts, there may be times when you are simply not able to pursue your goals. A sudden illness or injury can put set you back. When this happens you need to be realistic.

Beating yourself up will not help, nor simply giving up. Take a little time to re assess your goal and consider what your options are now. How important is it that this goal is achieved within the original timeframe. Also consider how else you goal can be pursued, and who can help you during these times.

Other People
Quite often the people that are closest to us fear us achieving our goals. For them this means that you may change and that will also mean change for them. They may not be aware how important your goals are to you.

If the people you share your time with for example family, friends, colleagues to not understand and support your goals, there is a chance that you may be influenced by this. If these people are adverse to change then they may well sabotage you plans.

Own Motivation
Although you may see out with the best intentions, after a while the novelty may wear off or there are other distractions. This may be down to a number of factors. Perhaps the goals that you set were too large, and needed to be broken down into smaller manageable chunks.

Perhaps you are not getting the results, and need to consider what you doing that is are preventing you from moving forward. After continued effort you may feel that the goal is now actually something that do dont want, or at least the outcome.

In this case the goal needs to be reassessed. If it requires modification because circumstances have changed, then change it. If it no longer serves you, then dont waste your energy following up on something just because you started it.

Time
We all live in a world where we dont seem to have enough time. Many of us are time poor, which means that we do not manage our use of time to get the best results. Quite often I hear from the people around me I just dont have time to do x. How true is this statement really? Have we taken on too much, overcommitted ourselves and are embarrassed to say no? Perhaps, but I have another view.

If we approach our use of time without any structure we may just leap from one thing to another in no particular order. Without priority we will move from one thing to the next urgent thing.

There is also the aspect of distractions. This can be distraction from others who do not have the same aspirations as you. There is the distraction of telephone calls and emails. Quite often we busy ourselves with those things that are nice to do, but do not take us any further forward to achieving our goals.

Money
Money is a common reason for not pursuing your goal. Usually it is the lack of money that stops you. When you hear someone say I cant afford it or I just dont have the money. These statements are usually offered up without much hesitation.

While I agree that it may well be true to some extent, what alternatives have they really explored and how else could the money be found? If you are really serious about achieving this goal, what lengths would you go to in order to find the money (legally)!

Lets turn this around and look at it from another perspective. What is it costing you to not have that goal in your life right now? For example being in that bad relationship or enduring bad health. If in achieving this goal it was going to get you that next job, or mean that you would get that 10% performance bonus at work, what efforts would you go to?

Fear
What do I mean by fear? There are the more straightforward examples. If you need to do something that takes you right outside of your comfort zone for the first time, which may well install fear into you.

Then there is the fear of failure. What will those around you think if you dont achieve you goal. How will you face them and maintain your integrity. Better to quit now that to see it through right? That way no-one will be able to judge me.
Another type of fear is the fear of success. What if I actually do it, and people find out I am a fraud? Is this goal something that I really want anyway? Self doubt comes into play and you try to talk your self out of it.

What evidence supports this in a business context?
In a recent survey conducted with Small and Medium enterprises (SMEs) and sole Traders they were asked what they viewed as the biggest challenges facing them in 2010. All of those surveyed reported that they were partially successful in achieving their goals and objectives in 2009. 33% of these goals were significant, and the reasons for not achieving them were down to ill health, not asking for help, and lack of confidence in the economy amongst others.

Many of these goals were being carried on into the following year, some people carrying forward all of their goals. When asked what they were going to do in order to achieve those, 66% reported that they would try something different, and 33% would look for assistance.

So what is stopping these business people from moving forwards? Well from the sample surveyed the leading factors were Lack of skills, lack of knowledge, Health, Fear (of success/ failure) and Limiting beliefs.

Those that responded that they would look for assistance; it was equally split between others in their trade or profession, approaching a business coach, or contacting specialist suppliers. From those three options, certainly looking at what your competitors are doing may give you some clues. After all if someone in our sector is being successful look at what they are doing. Likewise specialist suppliers may be useful if the understand you goals and aspirations. However they may have another agenda, after all they are in business too.

However neither of these two approaches are focussed on helping you achieve your goals, and neither of them hold you accountable in working towards them. This is where a Business coach can prove particularly valuable. They will assist you in defining and developing you goals, identify what is stopping you and develop strategies to help you deal with those obstacles when they come along.

The Business coach will also challenge you to check if you are working on goals that move you towards what you want, and keep you accountable to those goals. As a Sole Trader or SME often there is no one around with whom you can share your goals with, and discuss them.

One of the common objections to using a Business coach is the perceived cost, often saying I cant afford that or its too expensive. It is sometimes useful to look at this from another perspective. What is it costing you not to use a Business coach? If you can attach a value to achieving each goal then the services of an effective Business coach can be quickly calculated.

Lets go back to the survey respondents for a moment. Two of the challenges identified were lack of skills, and lack of knowledge. Suppose for a moment if a Business coach could help you identify what these gaps were, how to close them and then how to apply them to your Business what would that be worth? You may think that you can go it alone, but consider for a moment how would you clearly identify those gaps in skills or knowledge? How long would it take you? Which direction would you go? For example

The 7 Letters Of The Musical Alphabet

The 7 Letters Of The Musical Alphabet

Have you often wondered what it means when someone says they are playing the note "C"? Why is that sound called "C"? How do you know it's a "C" and not some other letter? Most likely, the person playing the note knows it's called "C" because they are familiar with the musical alphabet and its role in music.

Every pitch that you hear or note that you read in music has a name. That is what is used to identify that pitch. It's just like how you have a name that you go by and so do I. People are less likely to get us confused because our name identifies who we are and separates us from each other. The same is true for music notes.

A standardized system of seven letters was developed to help us name pitches and identify them. Now we know that "C" is different from "G" when we hear it and play it. The musical alphabet only uses seven letters: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. Once the note "G" is played, the very next pitch is called "A" restarting the musical alphabet all over again. The entire musical alphabet can be cycled through many different times in a single piece of music.

When you look at the white keys on the piano, you will see a repeating pattern of the seven letters used in music. I tell my students that if they want to play a trick on someone, ask them to play or sing the note "H". You'll soon find out if that person really knows something about music or not.

I know it can be hard to believe that music only has seven notes, especially when you are listening to a very complex piece of music. Sometimes the pitches fly by so quickly, you have a hard time keeping up with what's going on. In whatever way music sounds to your ear, there are still no more than seven different notes that you are hearing.

Some of the notes may sound higher or lower than others. They also may be altered by a sharp or flat, giving it another very unique sound. Nonetheless, music is a simple language to learn because it only uses the first seven letters of the English language alphabet to name the notes.

Now that you know what letters are used in the musical alphabet, try memorizing all seven notes. Also, it's very worthwhile to memorize the pattern on the white keys of the piano as well. Remember to practice repeating the musical alphabet by restarting with the letter "A" after you reach "G". As you can see, music really isn't that hard to learn. The next step is to see how those seven notes are used when we read it on the music page.
